All of us have felt out of balance during different parts of our lives, actually for most of us in happens every day. Your boss, spouse or kids can all pull you off balance to the point where you become an ineffective leader. Being pulled into personality and away from center is a common occurrence. The key is not trying to stay balanced, but to quickly and effectively come back into balance. Come back intentionally to "the Zone", where hard work seems easy. So how do you ReBalance your emotions or your mind? Start by ReBalancing you body, literally coming back into physical balance that then realigns your heart/emotions and your mind/wisdom.
Follow these simple steps to ReBalance your body. Practice 300 times to learn the sequence and another 3,000 times to perform well under pressure. You can practice when in the elevator, when waiting in line, sitting in your car or conference room, etc.
1. if you are right handed, pls stand with your left foot slightly ahead of your right foot (vice versa if you are left handed).
2. Knees slightly bent.
3. Short (2 seconds) inhale, then long exhale (10 seconds) pushing the breath down, connecting to the ground.
4. On the next inhalation, become taller from the crown of your head. Think of a ballet dancer or British nobility.
5. As you exhale, relax your jaw, neck and shoulders but keep your height.
6. Move the back of your neck back about 2 inches, drop your chin. Keep your head, spine and but all aligned together like the back of a knife.
7. Check to see if the pressure on your back, front and sides are all the same. You should feel held evenly on all sides.
8. Extend your arms in front of your waist, palms up. Exhale evenly and gently.
9. Bring forth you quality, attribute or intention as you are now ReBalanced and can see again clearly.
This simple, foundational practice can change your entire approach in working with difficult people or topics. By RePositioning your body you end up ReBalancing your emotions and wisdom. Try this many times during the day so when you end up under pressure your body will have a good reference point to ReBalance.
